Both the FSSP and the SSPX operate their own churches, schools, and seminaries. FSSP priests must be ordained by diocesan bishops; SSPX priests are illicitly ordained by the renegade bishops consecrated by the late Archbishop Lefebvre. The FSSP was formed in 1988 in opposition to the illicit episcopal consecrations done by Archbishop Lefebvre.
