The gas piston is beneath the fore end, and the vent holes are located toward the top of the piston housing, the vent to the inside of the fore end. I wonder how this would impact the walnut furniture long term. Maybe they put a metal liner.

Just participated in a local 3-Gun match yesterday, and once again had problems with my Mossberg 930 JM Pro. This time I had two instances of the fired shell failing to extract. The first time, the extractor pulled the brass head off the hull and left the hull in the chamber. I had to stick a rod down the barrel to push the hull out.

The 1301 is a very reliable gun, the 930 has not proven to be and the 940 is to new to have much of a track record so I'd go with the 1301.
