The bluing is still good and the receiver has some case coloring still in good shape. Is this a 1940 rifle or a 1941. Can't get over how smooth this rifle works. Took it out and killed a couple of Armadillos with it a while back, great shooter.

I have a 39A that i got from my father-in law. I was trying to find out the manufacture date, but the first character of the serial number is odd. (see attached image). It looks like it could be a D or a P, but it is missing part of the letter. It does not look like the missing part has worn off, it looks like it was never there.

The Genfield's used the same serial numbers as the Marlin's. The model 57, might have a 2 letter code on the barrel, if so you can go to the part on the serial number sheets, that says Non 39A's 22's. This will only work if it it was made between 1962 and early 1968.
