The Ithaca 37, also known as the Ithaca Model 37, is a pump-action shotgun made in large numbers for the civilian, law enforcement and military markets. Based on a 1915 patent by firearms designer John Browning for a shotgun initially marketed as the Remington Model 17, it utilizes a novel combination ejection/loading port on the bottom of the gun which leaves the sides closed to the elements. I pattern tested my Ithaca 51 12ga tonight. I shot a reload of 7/8 ounce of #6 at 1200 fps. The 26" IC barrel put 134 of 218 pellets (hand counted) in a 30 inch circle at 40 yards for 61%. The 28" Mod barrel put 173 out of 218 pellets in a 30" circle at 40 yards for 79%.
