It really depends - you could use occult affinity and use the ash of war called seppuku (which adds a large amount of bleed buildup to the weapon) occasionally, or you could just set the weapon to blood affinity and save yourself the hassle of buffing it all the time (but have a lower AR). It's a personal choice based on your playstyle.

I used it for a while and had no issue with it. I decided to use a bleed build when I was struggling with a late game boss, and it was very good as a bleed weapon.
