Mud with cake up the cooling fins and cause you to run hot.... another issue may be your thermal clutch on your fan may be bad and not engaging. Decided to replace thermostat. Put new Mopar thermostat in, and the JK still runs at 220 on average. Took JK to my other mechanic. He did some research and found that drilling a 1/8" hole in thermostat will allow Jeep to run cooler. Decided to drill hole. The Jeep is still running hot. About 220. Took the JK back to the dealer.

Does anyone else have problems with the JK running hot in this wicked summer weather (96 and high-humidity here in North Carolina). I have been running the a/c some and the Jeep (in town) starts to run really hot - in the 3/4 range on the gauge and just above. I know they say it could hurt performance, that is bull because mine runs lot better when it is cold. The thermostat won't help, it only controls the lowest running temperature of the engine, not the highest.

The hot oil warning is not for engine oil, it's for the automatic transmission. Check your transmission fluid level and condition. Also check for any obstruction of the transmission cooler.
