I have a 2018 2.7 lariat with 116000KM and starting experiencing what i thought was IWE related noises about a week ago. The noise happens accelerating or decelerating and only in around the 5-20 KM/hr speed. Never above... 5/16″ wrench or socket for the IWE bolts. We all know how to remove the wheels and the rest is just a matter of removing the outer CV center nut, tie-rod nut and the upper ball-joint nut and separating both. After this there is (3) small bolts holding the actuator on the hub that get removed.

In my opinion if the pcm commands the IWE to engage, and it did engage FULLY, it would not result in the noise/vibration described. And the whole point of Ford finally moving away from vacuum actuated IWE was to eliminate the infamous "partial" engagement of the IWE. I have replaced the IWE actuators 4 times since truck was new, and the IWE solenoid once. I have verified that I have vacuum etc. (no detectable leak) but still engages accelerating and/or up hill etc.

Unplug the vacuum line from your iwe solenoid, see if noise goes away, report back. Edit: the vacuum line from solenoid to actuators, not the line from solenoid to vacuum box / engine. Sounds like the iwe’s are not pulling in thus turning the front diff full time which will make a little noise but shouldn’t be excessive.I disconnected the solenoid for now and the noise has stopped.
