My 2016 F-150 started showing signs of similar issues with the sun roof, so I just traded it fora 19' F-250 without a sunroof. The trick as others have mentioned is to tilt the sunroof up before opening it.The sunroof drain tubes end inside the bottom of the front fender, right where it meets the front door.
