Then I casually roll legendaries on them until they have the rolls on them that suit my tastes. And casually stop by the vender bot Phoenix to see if he's got a mod for sale.

You need a beta or gamma capacitor for that to happen, and those mods don’t exist for this weapon. If you want friendly fire on a rifle build, use a normal plasma or laser rifle with one of those capacitors. They do.

I changed the flamer attachment to automatic barrel and the automatic rifle perks increased it's damage. I didn't see any attachment for an automatic flamer mod.
