The SLAM is named such because we want you to SLAM the chlorine into your pool. Don't overdose but calculate your dosage and bring it to 20. Test again in just a few hours and bring it back to 20 again. The time between doses will get less and less as the chlorine consumes organics in your pool. Follow the SLAM article precisely.

PH can be raised in three ways: borax, soda ash, and aeration. Borax is usually the best choice. Borax raises the PH and also raises the TA level just a little. If your TA level is low soda ash will raise both the PH and TA levels. When I try it on my pool that has a current chlorine level within the recommended range, I also get the warning when hitting the SLAM toggle. Seems it's complaining that the target SLAM level is above your 'normal' recommended 5–9 ppm level. If the SLAM toggle is on, I don't think it should complain about it. I'd ignore the warning.
