The Ring, like every other wireless doorbell I've owned over the past 30 years, has a ringer inside and doesn't require that you connect it to an existing doorbell.

There's a couple of things to check, based on what you've mentioned: First, make sure that the Video Doorbell is showing the blinking white light, indicating that it's ready to scan. If it's showing a constant white, or a yellow, it's not yet ready.For a SimpliSafe camera that is still in the packaging and never set up with an account, use the Remove Device option. Open the SimpliSafe app > Settings > Devices. Click on the unused camera and select Remove Device. This deletes the camera from your account.
