Then disconnect the black/yellow trace wires that goes to each switchbox. (That's what the cdi spark coil drivers are called.) and try again.The compression range of these motors brand new from the factory would have been in the range of 110-135 psi with a variance of +/- 15 psi being acceptable. I always blow air from a compressior thru the motor backwards of the normal water flow before replacing the LU back on the motor. This can be done at the phole on the motor.

Forum Rules. I have a 1985 Mercury 150 Black Max that is overheating as soon as you put the power to it. It will idle at 145 degrees all day but as soon as you raise the RPM's it gets hot and the alarm goes off. It does not cool down after it gets hot. XR2 and XR4 came with 4 1/4 in lowers.
