Maxxforce 7 problems.

I have a couple of Volvo 670s w/ Cummins ISX engines, and I was looking to replace one with a 2012-13 ProStar. I am pretty happy with the ISX other than an EGR problem every 200,000 miles. But I can't help but notice that there is a $15-20000 price difference(30+%) between the price of ProStars equipped with the MaxxForce engine …With the later engine versions, such as the twin-turbo MaxxForce DT, tipping the scale up to 1,900 pounds, earlier models weighed roughly 1,425 pounds. The engine has a 7.6L engine capacity, a horsepower of up to 300 hp at 2200 rpm, and a torque of up to 850 lb-ft at 1300 rpm.After the filters were changed the bus still will not start. It will crank and crank, but not kick over. If the system is manually primed it will run for about 5 seconds, then chug and stall. All the fuel lines seem tight with no fuel leakage or diesel fuel smell. But the problems seem to have only affected a minority of Breeze owners. There is a FaceBook Breeze Owners Group that I participate in and monitor and by my count, 7 out of 42 owners of the 240hp MaxxForce (2010 EPA) reported engine issues: 5 regarding the DPF (part of the emission control system); and, 2 regarding the high-pressure fuel system.

On Maxxforce DT,9 and 10 with dual turbos you can easily take the compressor housings off and just spray brake clean to remove the junk, and wash out the housings in a parts cleaner. On smaller Maxxforce 7 there is actually an induction cleaning solution you run through the engine while it is running.

Repeat injector failures Maxxforce 7 aka 6.4L powerstroke. This failed #2 injector in Aug 2021. Failed it This again in Dec. 2021. Failed a 3rd time last week. A competent shop much closer to the customer replaced the first two. When the third one failed it was brought to us. We load tested the wiring.
