A shaft from the mower connects to the back side of the pulley, which is all in a metal box configuration. The only way you will be able to remove the pump is to remove it by unbolting the front adapter housing that the pump mounts to. As you know, there is not enough room to remove the splines. Fuel pump was also weak maybe because of not being able to get fuel I replaced water separator, lift pump and fuel filter and it worked fine.
