Duramax ticking noise.

I know it’s an old thread, but the L5P in the 2020 is the noisiest, most unpleasant Duramax to date. The thumping, ticking, screeching, and what I’m assuming is injector knock, is almost Unbearable. Been in 3 different 2020’s and besides when mine melted down a dpf, I’ve yet to hear a quieter Dmax from factory.April 15, 2020. This is so common on ALL duramax engines-- GM circulated a TSB for the techs to advise them-- it is normal. Some call it a "Typewriter" noise. The noise could be described as an irregular ticking or clacking sound like random typing on a mechanical typewriter. The overall noise reduction in engines produced today makes this noise seem new when in fact it was masked by other noises in the past.

2019 Chevy Duramax L5P Ticking. Engine has a pretty loud tick when I first start it up, sounds like it’s coming from the drivers side but it’s hard to determine. It also increase with RPMs. Once I drive it and get it up to operating temp. It seems to go away. I’ve listened to typewriter tick but this sounds a little bit different.It can become very pronounced right after changing your oil. Sometimes mine is worse right after changing than other times. You can try & find another oil brand thatll maybe reduce the tick noise, or you just live with it. I use Rotella T in my LMM & Mobil Delvac Super in the LML. Basically you get some air trapped in the lifter oil passage and it takes a bit of time for it to work out. When my LMM does it it takes 30 to 50 miles for it to clear up. When at idle (in park or drive doesn't matter) there is a loud ticking noise coming from what sounds like drivers side rear of engine. It is only at idle as soon as throttle is given it goes away.
